some of my earliest childhood memories are bound to my grandpa.
whenever my parents went out at night he came over to babysit us, whether bringing one of his books with him or sometimes allowing us to watch tv with him. he was a big fan of those western films, starring john wayne or clint eastwood and he loved to read "groschenhefte", cheap magazines that were all about cowboys and indians.
we were cuddled up in blankets on the sofa and watched with him. there was the one with the fly... and the dripping water... three men sitting around at a train station.... i remember i fell asleep before the first shot and until now i didn´t manage to watch this film till the end. there also were funny ones like "two mules for sister sara" - a not-so-typical western i still love deeply.

no, i didn´t grew up to be a western-fan. i´m not a cowgirl and i don´t want to be one.
but, when i see one of those magazines or a preview for a western movie, i remember my grandpa. i remember him storytelling and singing for us. i remember how he smelled and how he hugged us, and how he always seemed to be there.

so, in remembrance, i made this hat (plus i wanted a hat with a wider brim anyway...*g*).

as usual, the tutorial is way too big to be put in the blog completely.
please CLICK HERE to see it (new window will open).

this is what comes out (meaning the HAT, not the "high-noon-look-a-like" pic of precious little self):

wl-highnoon
wl-hatfin

as usual, the pictures are clickable...

the tutorial / the hat is part of
whipup
challenge september 2006: "hat month".

i´m not sure if it should be entered in the "tutorial" section, dh suggested to put it in the "skill" section because of the general informations about hat drafting.
well, i don´t consider this as "skilled", but i will leave the decision up to you. at least you will have a (hopefully!) pretty cool how-to ^.^

i hope you will have as much fun with my tute as i had making it and i really would appreciate to hear from you ^.^

if you have questions on how to draft your "very own hat", please feel free to contact me at madhatter[at]couchpiraten[dot]de

thanks for stopping by!

Howdie, stranger...
extremly kewl³
But do you think the very male Clint Eastwood would wear a hat with flowers? Otherwise.. it would look quite charming on him! *ggg*

Cool as always!

The embellishment didn't look like flowers to me but rather like "Bull's Eyes".

Oh, I should have tried to actually read before coming over to you congratulate you... but to be specially mentioned isn't bad either, isn't it?!

Oh my, look at that sentence! Do I classify as spam now and may hope that those two hurried comments are sent to Nirvana? *sigh*

first of all: thank you for being so kind :)

alex, you´re not the first who sent out a "congrats", but i think being one of the "special mentions" is pretty nice, too! i´m happy with it ^.^

and... why should your comments go to nirwana?
